Tea and Health
Springleaf® iced tea is naturally rich in antioxidants (like those found in fresh fruit and vegetables) because it is made with only freshly brewed real tea, rather than powders or concentrates.
For thousands of years, tea has been known as a wonderful and refreshing beverage. But it is only recently that Western science has begun to uncover the reasons for its long fabled healthy properties.
Did you know:
Black and green tea both contain antioxidants, because both black and green tea come from the same plant (Camelia Sinensis). |
Tea is one of the richest known sources of antioxidants. Antioxidants fight "free radical" molecules in your body. Free radicals are known to attack healthy cells in your body, while antioxidants act to mop these up. |
The antioxidants found in tea are the same type as those found in Red Wine. These antioxidants are called polyphenols, and are naturally present in the tea leaf. |
A 1996 review of the Australian diet found that over a third of the antioxidant intake of the average Australian diet is from tea consumption. |
Caffeine is present in all tea (and can be removed chemically, although we do not do this) but in amounts far lower than coffee (about 1/3 of the caffeine content of a cup of coffee). Springleaf iced teas are naturally low in caffeine. |
